SPRING LEAGUE  |  COACHES

Coach / Team

Registration & Information

Welcome Coaches, on this page you will be able to register yourself and your team during the registration period.  You will also find the necessary info to have a productive season.
WHAT IS THE REGISTRATION PROCESS

1.  COACH REGISTERS TEAM

Pre-Form Coach registers team in correct Division/grade first before players.  Once team is registered, coach needs to inform players the Division the team is registered in, as well as Coach Name & Team Name.

2.  TEAM UNIFORMS

During team registration, coach needs to select and inform their players if their team needs uniforms or has uniforms.  Uniforms will be ordered for teams that need them.  Teams with their own uniforms need to make sure they abide by league uniform policy.

3.  PLAYERS REGISTER TO TEAM COACH CREATED

Parents now register players to the team their coach created.  Need to know correct Division, Coach Name, Team Name, & Uniform situation   to register to team succesfully.  During registration, select whether team needs or has uniforms.

4.  SEASON BEGINS

After all teams have been formed and registered, the season will begin.

- 5 week season
- Games played primarily Sundays
- Post-Season Tournament

HAVE A TEAM BUT NEED PLAYERS?

We know many teams may not have full rosters coming back this season.  If you have some available roster spots, please let us know in your team registration.  We have a waitlist of individuals (Free Agents) looking to join a team.   Please read the bullet points for things to consider when adding waitlisted free agents to your team.
*  To participate teams need 7-12 players on a team.

UNIFORM SOLUTION
If you are looking to add players from the waitlist you will either need to have your own solution for your team's uniform because waitlisted players won't have the uniforms your team planned to use or your whole  team will need to order uniforms either from the league (if before the deadline) or on your own.

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN ADDING PLAYERS FROM WAITLIST:

ITS FOR THE KIDS...
This waitlist process is to help give kids not on a team a chance to play and help get teams at or above the 7 player minimum.  It is not to help coaches find the next baby Lebron or Candace Parker.

NO TRYOUTS OR EVALUATIONS
These players may not have been evaluated.  There's not always time or a way for the league to know each players skill level before assigning to teams.  You will not be allowed to tryout or evaluate players before assigning to team.  You either have open roster spots or you don't.

ITS NOT NBA 2K FREE AGENCY...ITS YOUTH BASKETBALL
You will not be allowed to selectively choose from the waitlist or ask for a specific type of player (ex. tall player, ball handler, shooter, etc.), your team either has available roster spots or it doesn't.

THINGS YOU

SHOULD

KNOW

Listed are some important things you and your team should be aware of regarding the League.

  • PRACTICE & GYM INFO / INSURANCE FORM

    PRACTICE 1-2x WEEK

For teams participating in our league, we usually recommend teams practice at least once a week.

RESERVING A GYM ON YOUR OWN

For those interested in booking a gym on their own, the league provides insurance for registered teams only.  Almost all facilities require proof of insurance to use their gym and we can provide that for you. Continue reading below...

INSURANCE REQUEST FORM - PRACTICE GYMS

Teams should locate and reserve a facility before submitting an insurance request form to the league.  Once you have found a facility, reserved it, and completed an insurance request form correctly, our staff will communicate with that facility directly regarding proof of insurance.  Teams are responsible for all payments and deposits for their practice gyms.  The league only provides proof of insurance for our registered teams.

For access to Insurance request form, click here or go to the bottom of any spring league page and click yellow link.

    PRACTICE GYM SPACE

For those teams interested in booking gym space for your team.  Our league will have extremely limited practice gym space for pre-form teams from slots unused by free agent teams.  Practice gyms are not included in the cost or provided for every team in the league (possibly 100+ teams).  Gyms offered by the league will share the gym with another team to reduce the costs.  Gym costs can be VERY expensive.

  • WHAT ARE COMPETITION LEVELS

There are multiple levels of competition to try and provide competitive games for both advanced/skilled players and new/developing players.  We try to separate them so that everyone has a chance to compete against players relatively of the same skill level.

  • WHAT IS LEVEL 1

Level 1 is the highest competition level designated for advanced/skilled teams and players.  Example of Level 1 players would be All-Net players, skilled Divisional All-Stars, players on/from competitive AAU teams, school teams, etc.

    LEVEL 1

    TOP LEVEL FOR ADVANCED/SKILLED PLAYERS

    4TH GRADE (BOYS)

    5TH GRADE

    6TH GRADE

    7TH GRADE

    8TH GRADE

  • WHAT IS LEVEL 2

Level 2 is competitive but it is designated for players/teams that may be new to the game of basketball or are still developing their skills.

    LEVEL 2

    MID-LEVEL FOR DEVELOPING PLAYERS

    3RD/4TH GRADE

    5TH/6TH GRADE

    7TH/8TH GRADE

    9TH/10TH GRADE (JV)

  • LEVELS DEPEND ON REGISTRANTS

The only way to have multiple competition levels is if there are enough teams/players to do so.  For example, if there are 20 5th/6th grade teams and 10 register Level 2, 5 register 5th Level 1, and 5 register 6th Level 1, then there would be enough to have multiple competition levels.  If 19 teams register level 2 and only 1 register Level 1 then the levels may be combined or adjusted by the league.

  • LEAGUE MAY MAKE ADJUSTMENTS

To balance competition and enhance gameplay, the league has the right to move players and/or teams between levels (and/or divisions if necessary).  This especially applies to Free Agents.  If after the Free Agent player evaluations, coaches or staff feel a player has registered in the incorrect level, a move up/down may be made to better suit the players skill level.

In regards to teams, teams may be moved up/down a competition level to attempt to have teams play against similar teams to create more competitive games.

  • SCHEDULING

[NEW] Game and tournament scheduling may be adjusted by league to abide by new COVID guidelines.  Teams will be notified if/when adjustments are made.

Games will be played at a number of school gyms in the San Jose / Santa Clara area.  Games are generally played between 9am - 6:15pm however there may be exceptions.  Games are scheduled for 1 hour 10 minutes long with high school rules.

Depending on the number of teams in a division, teams may have double headers in some of the weeks.

For the post season, it will be a single elimination tournament.  NO SCHEDULE REQUESTS WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR THE POST SEASON TOURNAMENT.  When playing tournament play, multiple games have to be played in order to determine a champion.  This means for example, teams may have to play an early game and if they win they may play a later game that day.  If they win again, they would play the next day in the championship possibly.  All participating post season teams must be able to play multiple games or your team should not participate in the post season.

  • TEAM ROSTERS

All participating teams are required to provide a team roster before each game to the scorekeepers.

These roster must be system generated and not hand written.  All players on your team must be registered or they are not eligible to play.

Instructions on getting your system generated roster will be sent around the beginning of the league.  Please contact the league if you are not sure how to access system generated roster.
