STARS STAFF

Each member of our staff plays a vital role in the overall experience and execution of the Silicon Valley Stars mission to build, develop, and encourage our Stars of the future through the game of basketball.  Each one brings a unique set of skills and expertise to our organization. 

ANDRE HUNT

SVNJB Region / Section Director

Andre Hunt brings over 30+ years of coaching, managing, and life experience to the program. He is currently the Section director for Silicon Valley National Junior basketball.  He has advised and led many youth sports programs, chapters, and teams.


MEL ROBERTSON

SVNJB Advisor & Coach

Mel Robertson brings over 30+ years of coaching, managing, and life experience to the program. He is a member of the NJB Hall of Fame and has mentored many individuals who have become leaders in basketball and life. 

ARNIE GLAPAJONE

Athletic Director & Head Coach

Coach Arnie is a diehard fan of the game of basketball and will coach, learn, play and teach the game for as long as he can. His focus is to help players develop their skills and gain confidence to succeed at the next level. His coaching purpose is to enable his players to enjoy the game through hard work and dedication. He also knows that basketball can be used as a tool to teach the game of life!

· Girls Varsity Assistant Coach at Evanston Township High School (1 year)
· Boys JV Coach at Antioch Community High School (2 years)
· Boys Freshman Head Coach at Antioch Community High School (3 years)
· Boys Sophomore Head Coach at Antioch Community High School (5 years)

THOMAS MATHIS

Head Coach

Thomas has coached AAU Basketball for 25+ years and had responsibilities as Head Coach, Player Agent, & Chapter Director for the Evergreen area. He is a returning coach for the SV Stars, in 2005 he was one of the first coaches with the Stars program, bringing home several tournament championships. He also has coached at the High school level at Yerba Buena High School as the J.V. Head coach. He has helped develop many boys and girls who went on to play successful high school basketball as well as several players who have went on to D-1 Colleges. He has a great passion for the game and loves to teach young players how to play the game the right way and help them understand the game of basketball.  

BK ROBERTSON

Program Clinician

BK Robertson has over 10 years experience coaching with the Silicon Valley Stars and Willow Glen Middle Schoo. Coach Robertson has been coaching 8th grade girls basketball at Willow Glen Middle School since 2009. He has also coached at Crittenden and Graham Middle Schools back in 2006. His teams won league championships in 2008, 2011, 2014 (2), and 2015. He is one of our lead clinician and coordinators in player development.
 
Coach Robertson uses a skills-based, developmental approach with his teams and players. Players are encouraged to perfect their skills and strategies during practice, so those skills and strategies become more fluid during games. This approach not only yields team improvement during the season, but also player improvement that has been proven to carry on to the next level.

JEDWIN MOK & JASON ZHANG

Co-Coaches

Jedwin Mok’s love & passion for the game started from a young age as he started playing elementary and middle school basketball.  Coach Jedwin is becoming a veteran coach with years of coaching experience coaching within the Stars program and NJB leagues. Jedwin has led several successful teams, spanning from 3rd to 8th grade. Coach Jedwin focuses on developing player character, sportsmanship, and work ethic, with a proven track record of creating strong team bonds. 

Jason Zhang is a proven leader with years of basketball coaching experience, ranging from 3rd grade to 8th grade teams.  Jason Zhang’s playing experience since the age of 5 has brought him an immense passion for the game. Coach Jason found his love for coaching after assisting his brother’s team.  Jason's coaching strengths are his ability to train, condition, and bond players together. He focuses on teamwork, persistence, and sportsmanship for his players, leading to many victories and lessons learned.

BILL MINOR

Head Coach

Coach B has a huge love for the game of basketball – whether it is playing or coaching. His main emphasis for coaching is ball movement, defense, and moving without the ball. He looks for players with heart and hustle; with the urge to learn! Player development is important on and off the court as well as making sure his team is respectful and committed. Basketball is not only a sport but an opportunity to impact the kids with life lessons. Winning is important but when we lose, we learn - and when we learn we grow. 

VLADI STOIMENOV

Head Coach

Vladi is the head coach for 8th grade girls’ basketball, and the head coach for 7th grade boys Cupertino Middle School. His purpose revolves around motivating his players to believe in themselves, realize the importance of discipline and work ethic in playing sports. He encourages a positive learning environment, highlighting the importance of teamwork, improving fundamentals, and developing basketball IQ. He believes that teaching youth basketball is an important moment for young players to instill healthy habits and recognize the possibilities in working hard and achieving goals. When he is not coaching he can be found playing basketball and soccer, walking his pug Oscar with his wife and children.
